Bicycles for horses.

When the 1/25th were sent to India it was without their beloved bicycles.

However not all regiments were keen on acquiring bicycles. The following image is from a postcard that Russell Ridout picked up on eBay. It was unattributed, but the logo at the top reveals that it refers to the Westmoreland & Cumberlands.  After being proudly on horseback, it must have been very galling to be ‘demoted’ to two wheeled steeds.

Russell has also discovered that apparently the headstone still exists in the the Regimental Museum.

Another interesting photo from Russell is the following. I wonder if the 25th worried about recruits “bad teeth”?
